Yes, there is an interim storage site for radioactive waste in Estonia. available. It is located in Paldiski and managed by AS ALARA.

Under the contract, ALARA accepts only solid hazardous waste suitable for landfill, which complies with the environmental permit issued to us and the applicable legislation.

Waste must be packaged and hermetically sealed in a durable barrel:

• big-bag bags lined with plastic film (water-immersible),
• IBC containers,
• 200 l or 100 l metal or plastic wafers.

We do not accept waste that is dirty, leaking or spilling, and we may return non-compliant lots.

• Request: send us the waste codes, the estimated quantity and, if available, the results of a chemical analysis of the waste carried out by an accredited laboratory. If the necessary analysis results are not available, we can determine them ourselves after the request. Typically, these are leachability, pH, solubility, flammability, explosiveness, reactivity and chemical composition analyses.
• Quotation and contract: we carry out a feasibility check, send you a quotation and conclude a contract.
• Accompanying documents: before shipment, fill in the hazardous waste consignment document in the OJS and attach the results of analyses by an accredited laboratory, safety data sheets and ADR classifications.
• Booking of time and transport: we will arrange a pick-up time; arrange ADR-compliant transport with written instructions.
• On-site reception: gate weighing (weighing in and out), visual and chemical conformity check, if compliant we store the waste, if not we send it back. We then invoice.

ALARA accepts low and intermediate level radioactive waste from holders of a radiological licence, which is not generated as a result of a production process in an industrial sector involving natural radioactive materials.

For the purpose of the source transfer pricing, at least the following data are required: isotope, activity, time of preparation, number of sources/devices, physical size of the source container or device with photo, location/address, dose rate on the surface of the container or device.

If the source does not have an owner, i.e. the holder of the source does not have a licence, at least the following information is required: photo of the source, location/address, number of sources (pcs, kg, m3), how the source was discovered.
